Delays. Lots of delays. Both Terry Riley and Steve Reich pioneered the use of tape delays early in the minimalist "movement." Here the bucket brigade delay, and digital resoverb serve that purpose. So much of what you hear is really harmonic reverb or amplified resonance, a.k.a. feedback. In my professional music training we always hated feedback. In modular synthesis feedback is simply another sound source. Any sound can be used artistically.

As for the title, well, sharp and short metallic sounds signify the patch, thus tinkle as a noun.
