I often wonder what my computer thinks while I'm editing and rendering video. What's amazing is using the shift register in the modular synthesizer. For you modular synthesis this is nothing more that Two Sample-and-Hold modules being triggered by an oscillator. Three oscillators and two S&Hs. The first oscillator triggers the first sample and hole, which triggers the second oscillator and sample and hold which triggers the third oscillator and sample and hold.

As a saxophonist in a former life, I am fond of the square wave since the saxophone produces as square wave as opposed to a flute which produces a sine wave. This entire sequence of S&H modules is run through a wasp filter to get that something of a Buck Rogers/Dr. Who quirky sci-fi sound.
